Rodrik Blackwater is a knight and the son of Orlan Blackwater. He serves House Redhawk as a household knight at the Perch.
Appearance and Character[]
Rodrik is a handsome, fit young man. His hair a chestnut brown and curly, his beard carefully taken care of, and a charming smile. He does have scars on his face from previous fights and accidents, which he tends to avoid questions about. He acts like a true knight out in public, but, when by himself, he tends to get lost in his thoughts. Thoughts on self-improvement. So much so, he tends to forget what people have said to him. Rodrik is very fond of his father, and is quick to anger if people speak ill of him.
History[]
Rodrik was a young and impressionable boy when the last refuge of House Blackwater came under attack
. He remembered how his father quickly swept him away just before the Lannister's sellswords broke through the mending gates and killed anyone in their way. Rodrik wanted to stay and fight, but Orlan insisted that he was much too young and inexperienced to create any impact. Orlan told him that they needed to live, reminding him of their house motto, "Ever restless, Ever vigilant." They would regain their house to their former glory, but they needed to be patient. Reluctantly, he agreed and was quickly moved to his father's friend, Olyvar's, house, House Redhawk. He trained day and night, his father having to carry his exhausted son to bed many nights. Orlan, studying day and night in the art of war, Rodrik, training day and night. Their perseverance was most definitely recognized. Rodrik was soon after squired to Lord Olyvar himself, who was impressed with Rodrik's determination. His first year of service, Lord Olyvar had Rodrik come to dispatch a group of bandits terrorizing a neighboring town. However, the event quickly turned sour when they discovered that this was an ambush planned to have Lord Olyvar kidnapped and held for ransom. They held Rodrik's mother as hostage. His father stepped up to rescue his mother, but was quickly overwhelmed and held down. As to teach a lesson the leader of the bandits took his arm. This enraged Lord Olyvar, and resulted in a battle. The leader, processing this was a loss for him, killed Rodrik's mother and tried to run. He did not expect young Rodrik to be in his way, when Rodrik's sword went right through his gut. The battle was won, but at a great cost. At the age of 22, Lord Olyvar had Rodrik knighted and made commander of his cavalry. Although he had witnessed all of these terrible events, they only served to bolster his goal of reclaiming his house's name.
